If you live in the Driftless Area, you’ve likely visited the scenic lookout in Lansing, Iowa known as Mount Hosmer. What you likely don’t know is the fabulous story behind the woman that the river bluff is named for. Far ahead of her time, Harriet Hosmer was a woman who survived childhood tragedy to become America’s first female sculptor of the 19th century. A story of determination and persistence, Harriet’s story reminds us of the need to live our own truth, despite cultural limitations and social restraints.
I will share how I was impacted by Harriet’s story, as well as life lessons from her that we can all use to live our best lives.
